Making my year’s suppy of marmalade with its promise of the future;
will sevilles, muscavado and dark rum taste as sharp in a year ?
Will we be here to taste it – will we all be here to taste it ?
My Christmas cake would see a single family outing,
squeezing each minute of meaning, drinking each face
to offset the drought to follow, fixing the baby’s mobile face.
How many cupboards have I re-ordered, cleaned, considered ?
How many habits changed as a promise to making new ones ?
Hopeful grappling hooks into the Spring, the Summer, and beyond.
