Dear Earth Satellite Programme
Dear Earth has been curated and produced by Fife Contemporary to mark our 20th anniversary year. In addition to the artists in this exhibition, we are celebrating this landmark year with a wider Satellite Programme including new commissions, workshops, activities and pop-up events to run throughout their anniversary year.
The Dear Earth exhibition and Satellite Programme launched with a packed opening on Saturday 21 March at Kirkcaldy Galleries, including a Plantograms Workshops with Zoe Hamill and an Artist In-Conversation Event with Mella Shaw and Stefanie Ying Lin Cheong discussing sustainability in artists’ practice. Further Satellite Programme Events are archived below.
Plantograms with Zoe Hamill
Workshop in Phytograms and Phone Prints
The Plantograms Workshop took place Saturday 21 March, and included a morning of creative activity led by Dear Earth exhibiting artist Zoe Hamill in a fun filled session exploring alternative photography. Participants embraced imperfection and experimentation as they learnt about less toxic photo processes in a hands-on session. Photographs were produced using plant-based chemistry, and a DIY darkroom enabled participants to create analogue prints direct from images on their mobile phone.

Artists In Conversation
Sustainability in an Artist’s Practice with Mella Shaw and Stefanie Ying Lin Cheong
On Saturday 21 March 2026, Fife Contemporary presented a conversation with Stefanie Ying Lin Cheong and Mella Shaw, two artists who put environmental consciousness at the heart of their practice. To mark the opening of the Dear Earth exhibition, Fife Contemporary’s Director Kate Grenyer hosted the lively discussion exploring practice sustainability, delving into the artists’ work and the changes that have unfolded over the past 20 years.
Wild Worries – Craft, Confide, Compost
Make A Mossling Workshop with Katie Fowlie
On Saturday 25 April, local Fife-based artist Katie Fowlie led a participatory workshop inviting the public to create biodegradable “Mosslings” from ethically foraged materials. Inspired by Scottish folk rituals and global traditions of entrusting worries to objects, participants transformed eco-anxieties into small, living talismans that joined a communal installation, to later return to the landscape to nourish new growth at the end of the Dear Earth exhibition. This workshop merged craft and ritual, engaging in slow, low-impact making to connect to Fife’s ecology and cultural heritage.

Sharing Not Hoarding
Dear Earth takes over 18 billboards along Dundee’s Waterfront
To reflect and expand on the Dear Earth exhibition, participating artists have contributed their own letter to the earth on the Sharing Not Hoarding billboards located along Dundee’s Waterfront Development. From May to July 2026 you will find the artists’ letters displayed alongside images of the their work and related practice. Sharing Not Hoarding is an experimental public art project, which encourages public participation by engaging with artists and community partners, using 18 billboard posters along Dundee’s Waterfront to create a vibrant dialogue of image, text and social media interactivity.
