Statement

Morgan’s work focuses on creating unisex, versatile, and durable garments using high-quality, locally sourced fabrics designed to last. In the face of the fast fashion crisis, there’s a pressing need for inclusive garments that consumers can trust and rely on for years. Since graduating, she launched her brand, MGH Design, under which she manufactures and sell a collection of jackets and bags tailored for the modern consumer. Morgan’s background in print design has given her a strong understanding of colour application and pattern creation, enabling her to craft timeless pieces that are meant to be cherished.

In an industry driven by overconsumption, “A Garment to Trust” celebrates the beauty found in the wear and use of clothing. Inspired by the solidity and permanence of brutalist architecture, this collection emphasises longevity, durability, and versatility, drawing parallels between urban landscapes and sustainable design. At every stage of the design process, she prioritize durability, wearability, and sustainability. By sourcing locally and employing research-led design coupled with handmade construction, she creates garments that can truly be trusted.

A pivotal part of her journey as a sustainable designer was writing her dissertation, “Conscious Consumption: A Sector Analysis of the Sustainable Fashion Industry with a Focus on the Feasibility of Launching a Clothing Brand in Scotland.” This work examined how brands embrace circularity and design with their environmental impact in mind.

Exhibiting at New Designers in London and selling her work at the V&A Dundee provided invaluable insights into brand promotion and customer engagement. Following these experiences, Morgan’s work was featured in Dezeen, a prominent architecture, interiors, and design magazine. Additionally, she was honoured to receive the Fife Contemporary New Makers Award, which has furthered my growth as a self-sufficient designer.

In the past year, Morgan has completed various internships and now work as a creative marketing assistant in Dundee. She dedicates her spare time to designing and creating, with the goal of transitioning this passion into a full-time venture in the coming years.

This year, Morgan’s creative practice has continued to develop alongside her full-time job. She strives to carve out time during the week for designing and making, but it can be challenging not to be creative full-time. She plans to find a studio space where she can further hone her skills as a designer and begin selling my work again.
