Statement
Millie Collins is a textile artist, designer and maker. She approaches embroidery through a contemporary lens creating work that sits between the contexts of art, textiles and design. She works intuitively to create serene and considered embroideries that capture the grounding nature of textiles. Guided by process and tactile methods of making she allows responsive explorations of colour, texture and composition to emerge through cloth.
Millie graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in summer 2022 with a degree in Textile Design. Her graduate collection ‘Textile Traces’ focused on combining the traditional and conceptual to create bespoke pieces that consider material movement and connection to place. Her work bridges the practice of making and research, realising ideas through the physical process of stitch. Her award-winning dissertation ‘Resettling Textiles’ investigated the way materials migrate – curating textile artworks to explore the narratives of cloth and the systems textiles operate within.
