Statement
Degree Show Work ABDUCTION Capturing feeling from the rawness of nature, an unsettling feeling of the unknown, identified Dylan’s inspiration of intrigue and suspense. The project originated from the confusion within density, the isolation of rot and brutal disfiguration of growth. The entity of nature brought him to three areas of investigation – concealed, exposed, deconstructed. Using sub themes to create the contrasting variation of how a fearful feeling is created, his project explores distress with an uncertainty to what lays beneath. Exploring the unease of the unknown, the adrenalin of survival, the drive of intrigue. Dylan’s graduation collection focuses on menswear with contrasting textile properties exploring dimensional texture within layering and sculpting. Deconstructing past life garments to create new existence of function. Dylan’s degree show garments were sculptural clothing that was designed to create high impact, statement pieces to be viewed and interacted with from runways and show case settings. After graduating he realised he needed to translate his designs into accessibility. To build an assessable range for his brand VXQR Dylan had to learn new processes and lead a new investigation into becoming a desired fashion brand. To that end he has been learning the skills of pattern cutting and the practicalities of function. VXQR focuses on discarded pre loved garments, deconstructing and combining high quality fabrics to create one off garments to be worn in contemporary life, representing mass waste of throw away culture. Over the past year VXQR has developed from sculptural to tailored made high preforming garments containing the same integrity to textile and visual impact. Each garment is constructed with the functionality to support the wearer in contemporary life focusing on weight, storage proportions, and practicality. From learning new skills and building the VXQR new studio base Dylan’s brand is officially launching on 29/11/24 with the first drop of PERFIDY collection, and many more to come. PERFIDY SS25 Perfidy collection is an investigation into trust and distrust between objects, an entity’s power of strength to succeed and destroy through tactile acts. A betrayal through the strength of growth and survival of life form. #SS25 #perfidy
Materials and Techniques
The perfidy collection contains three main techniques that are all flat stitched, hand weave layering, patch-working, and tailoring. Each technique varies depending on the textile properties. VXQR sources pre loved fabrics taking high-quality, discarded textiles to either contrast the variations of how textiles perform together or to isolate and highlight one particular fabric property, collecting a mass that holds subtle degradations of the textiles life journey.

Developments and Thoughts
“The adjustment from education to independence brought many difficulties that I underestimated would occur, from the isolation of a home studio space, self teaching through trial and error, budgeting and sourcing equipment and the knowledge of knowing connections to grow a brand. I’ve overcame problems by determination and learning how other life style factors play an important roll in building a brand. With the support of Fife Contemporary further creating a community pace to support my brands growth by being around creative individuals helped keep my brand goals on track.” Dylan aims to create a brand where people can choose our fabric range to create their custom look to suit their personality. Tailored high functioning outfits from past garment clothing. Deconstructing the way fashion brands exploit they way clothing should be worn.
